What is the Future For Premature Ejaculation?

The Horizon is closer than we think. For the last year or five we have heard the rumblings of the first ever made for premature ejaculation drug. So in the year 2004 the large company of Johnson and Johnson submitted their application to the FDA for approval of the drug dapoxetine. The Brand name is called Priligy. They were denied approval and have been working to get it approved ever since. The drug company Pfizer is also working on its own version.

Just what is dapoxetine? From the literature it states it is similar to SSRI in that it prevents the transport, rather than the reuptake, of serotonin. Its pharmacological profile is much more desirable in that unlike SSRIs, dapoxetine reaches maximum concentration in the body in about an hour and is flushed from the body quickly.

This means that you do not need to take it daily; instead it can be taken one hour before the sexual act. They found that even at the minimum required dosage that ejaculation time is increased double and if higher doses are taken the delays to ejaculation are even longer.

So far the dangers and the side effects that have been found are small and dapoxetine does not react with other medication or even alcohol.

Fast forward to 2009 and we see that Janssen-Cilag EMEA, a division of Janssen Pharmaceuticals N. V., has received marketing authorization in Finland and Sweden for the on-demand treatment of premature ejaculation (PE) Priligy (dapoxetine) in men 18-64 years of age. As of February 2010 it has not been approved for use in the United States.

After approval in a specific country, Priligy (dapoxetine) will only be available by prescription from a healthcare professional.

You should be aware that there are unapproved imitations and fakes of the drug dapoxetine. They are being offered underground and over the internet. The potential risk of using unapproved counterfeits is serious up to and including death. As for any prescription drug make sure to buy it where you know it is pure and the real thing.
